About Us
MakeSens is a start-up spun out of University of Calgary research group. Advanced manufacturing technologies at its core, MakeSens aims to enhance energy density of lithium-ion batteries by enabling silicon-based anode materials by encapsulating silicon particles with multi-layered structure of chemical and physical stabilization. The novel energy-efficient manufacturing process minimizes carbon emissions during production, reducing manufacturing GHG emission up to 84 % compared to commonly used battery-grade synthetic graphite for the same amount of battery capacity.
Dr. Simon Park is a co-founder of MakeSens Inc. and a director of the company. He is currently affiliated with University of Calgary as a faculty member, professor at the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Department. He has led Multifunctional Engineering and Dynamics Automation Laboratory (MEDAL, www.ucalgary.ca/medal) and produced widely recognized scientific achievements in precision micro and nano-mechanical manufacturing, smart sensors and actuators, flexible printed electronics, pipeline leakage detection, partial upgrading and many other areas of engineering domains.
Dr. Chaneel Park is a co-founder of MakeSens Inc. and CEO of the company. He has graduated from University of Calgary with a Bachelor’s (BSc. Mechanical Engineering), Master (MSc. Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering), and Ph.D. (Ph.D. in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering). In his graduate studies, Dr. Chaneel Park studied micro and nano scale manufacturing, with a focus on polymeric nanocomposite materials and their properties as smart materials.
Dr. Allen Sandwell is a co-founder of MakeSens Inc. and CTO of the company. He has also graduated from University of Calgary for the Bachelor’s (BSc. Mechanical Engineering), Master (MSc. Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering), and Ph.D. (Ph.D. in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering). In his graduate studies, Dr. Allen Sandwell studied precision manufacturing and the application of sensors in machinery for precision control and monitoring.
